أدانت هيئة محلفين في مدينة لاس فيغاس الأمريكية، دوين «كيفي دي» دافيس، بتهمة القتل من الدرجة الأولى باستخدام سلاح مميت، على خلفية مقتل مغني الراب الأمريكي توباك شاكور في إطلاق نار عام 1996.
دافيس يواجه السجن مدى الحياة
وذكرت وكالة «رويترز» أن هيئة المحلفين المكونة من 12 عضواً توصلت بالإجماع إلى قرار الإدانة، أمس (الإثنين)، بعد مداولات استمرت نحو ثلاث ساعات، فيما يواجه دافيس (63 عاماً) عقوبة قد تصل إلى السجن مدى الحياة دون إمكانية الإفراج المشروط. وأبلغ دافيس القاضي عزمه استئناف الحكم.
الادعاء: دبّر الهجوم ووفّر السلاح
وكان الادعاء قد اتهم دافيس، وهو قيادي سابق في عصابة «ساوث سايد كومبتون كريبس»، بتدبير الهجوم الذي أدى إلى مقتل شاكور، رداً على اعتداء وقع في أحد كازينوهات لاس فيغاس وطال ابن شقيقه في الليلة نفسها. ولم يتهم الادعاء دافيس بإطلاق النار بنفسه، إلا أن قانون ولاية نيفادا يسمح بمساءلته عن جريمة القتل على أساس دوره في تنظيم الهجوم وتوفير السلاح المستخدم فيه.

الجريمة تعود إلى سبتمبر 1996
وتعود الواقعة إلى السابع من سبتمبر 1996، عندما كان شاكور يستقل سيارة «بي إم دبليو» برفقة مؤسس شركة «ديث رو ريكوردز» ماريون «شوغ» نايت، قبل أن تتوقف إلى جوارهما سيارة «كاديلاك» بيضاء عند إشارة مرور ويُطلق منها الرصاص. وأصيب شاكور بعدة طلقات، وتوفي متأثراً بجروحه بعد ستة أيام عن عمر ناهز 25 عاماً، فيما نجا نايت من الهجوم.
تصريحات قديمة تحاصره أمام المحكمة
واستند الادعاء خلال المحاكمة إلى تصريحات أدلى بها دافيس على مدى سنوات في مقابلات إعلامية، إضافة إلى مذكراته الصادرة عام 2019 وتسجيلات لمحادثات أجراها مع محققين، قال فيها إنه كان داخل السيارة التي أطلقت منها النار، وإنه سلّم السلاح إلى أشخاص كانوا في المقعد الخلفي قبل تنفيذ الهجوم. في المقابل، دفع محاموه بأن تلك التصريحات كانت مبالغات وقصصاً غير حقيقية روج لها دافيس بهدف تحقيق مكاسب مالية.
ويعد الحكم أول إدانة قضائية في قضية مقتل توباك شاكور، التي ظلت من أبرز جرائم القتل غير المحسومة في تاريخ موسيقى الراب الأمريكية على مدى نحو ثلاثة عقود، فيما توفي الرجال الثلاثة الآخرون الذين كانوا داخل السيارة التي انطلقت منها الأعيرة النارية قبل توجيه أي اتهامات إليهم.
A jury in Las Vegas, USA, has convicted Dwayne "Keefe D" Davis of first-degree murder using a deadly weapon, in connection with the shooting death of American rapper Tupac Shakur in 1996.
Davis Faces Life in Prison
Reuters reported that the 12-member jury reached a unanimous verdict of guilty yesterday (Monday) after deliberating for about three hours, while Davis (63 years old) faces a sentence that could lead to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Davis informed the judge of his intention to appeal the ruling.
Prosecution: Planned the Attack and Provided the Weapon
The prosecution accused Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips gang, of orchestrating the attack that led to Shakur's death in retaliation for an assault that occurred at a Las Vegas casino and targeted his nephew on the same night. The prosecution did not accuse Davis of firing the shots himself, but Nevada law allows him to be held accountable for the murder based on his role in organizing the attack and providing the weapon used.

The Crime Dates Back to September 1996
The incident dates back to September 7, 1996, when Shakur was riding in a BMW with Marion "Suge" Knight, the founder of Death Row Records, before a white Cadillac pulled up next to them at a traffic light and opened fire. Shakur was hit by multiple bullets and died from his injuries six days later at the age of 25, while Knight survived the attack.
Old Statements Haunt Him in Court
During the trial, the prosecution relied on statements made by Davis over the years in media interviews, as well as his memoir published in 2019 and recordings of conversations he had with investigators, in which he claimed he was inside the car from which the shots were fired and that he handed the weapon to people in the back seat before the attack. In contrast, his lawyers argued that those statements were exaggerations and false stories promoted by Davis for financial gain.
The ruling marks the first criminal conviction in the case of Tupac Shakur's murder, which has remained one of the most high-profile unsolved murders in the history of American rap music for nearly three decades, while the three other men who were in the car from which the shots were fired have died before any charges were brought against them.
