Gold prices fell during today's trading (Friday), affected by rising oil prices and accelerating inflation in the United States, which reinforced expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will raise interest rates again in December.
As of 05:11 GMT, the price of gold in spot transactions decreased by 0.5% to $4000.54 per ounce, while U.S. gold futures for December delivery fell by a similar percentage to $4010.10.
U.S. inflation data showed an increase in the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index in September, with rising gasoline and other goods costs, which bolstered economists' expectations for an interest rate hike in December.
According to the "FedWatch" tool from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group, markets are pricing in a roughly 75% chance of a U.S. interest rate hike in December.
Higher interest rates increase the opportunity cost of holding gold, which does not yield returns for its holders, reducing its investment appeal, while rising oil prices have contributed to heightened inflationary concerns.
In other precious metal markets, silver fell by 1.6% to $51.53 per ounce, platinum decreased by 1.9% to $1459.75, while palladium dropped by 1.4% to $992.37.
The report indicated that the three metals were on track to record weekly and monthly losses.
