Geneva - Before the Human Rights Council, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has confirmed that the Syrian crisis has entered into a serious and unprecedented stage in human history, noting that despite of urgent appeals and UN resolutions calling for opening of humanitarian corridors and delivering of aid to the needy and affected, the Syrian regime and its allies are still continuing their military operations, siege and displacement of innocent civilians from towns and villages in total ignorance of all these decisions and appeals.
In KSA's speech during the interactive dialogue with the International Committee to investigate violations being committed in Syria, the Head of the Human Rights Department of the Permanent Delegation of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in Geneva, Dr. Fahd bin Obaidullah Al-Mutairi, has reiterated the Kingdom's firm stance towards the Syrian crisis and that it should be resolved politically according to the principles of (Geneva 1) and UN Security Council Resolution 2254, in order to realize the aspirations and hopes of the brotherly Syrian people to live in their country in safety, dignity and prosperity.
He added that before a short period, the longest siege witnessed by the modern era has ended, which lasted more than five years in the eastern Ghouta, where thousands of innocent people have suffered along with displacement of more than 140,000 civilians, as such the brutal method committed by the regime forces has psychologically and physically affected the lives of civilians especially women and children due to being subjected to almost daily bombardment and intimidation in addition to depriving them of their most basic rights as tens of thousands of them being unlawfully detained by security services as well as a whole slew of deaths and injuries from civilians.
Dr. Al-Mutairi thanked the International Independent Investigation Commission for its oral update to the Human Rights Council, which shows the extent of the suffering of Syrian people and grave violations taking place in Syria, especially by the forces of the Syrian regime and its cooperating militias.
