United Nations - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir participated in the high-level meeting on drug control, which was held under the chairmanship of US President Donald Trump at United Nations Headquarters in New York city yesterday on the sidelines of the General Assembly's 73rd session.
The meeting discussed ways to eliminate the production of drugs and the problem of their addiction around the world and ways of raising awareness of their damage.
Al-Jubeir participated in Nelson Mandela Peace Summit held also on the sidelines of the General Assembly's 73rd session to focus on world peace on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nelson Mandela.
He delivered a speech, on behalf of the Arab Group, during which he affirmed that the late President Nelson Mandela had strong and historical relationships with the leaders of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Arab countries and had stances supportive of the Palestinian cause; the first cause of Arabs and Muslims.
The Minister further said «I am pleased to stand with you today on behalf of the Arab League and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the President of the 29th Arab Summit, at a summit to be attributed to a man changed history thanks to his tolerance, patience and humanity, though years of pain, prison and suffering he faced during his years of struggle for peace, security and development in South Africa and the world».
Moreover, Saudi Foreign Minister added, perhaps one of the most important lessons from which we can benefit is our continuation to build and strengthen peace and security in the world to achieve the well-being of our peoples, to enjoy security, peace and prosperity, to activate the principles of peaceful coexistence among peoples, respect the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other States.
In conclusion, I would like to extend my sincere thanks, in the name of my country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Member States of Arab League, to the efforts being made by the United Nations in hosting Nelson Mandela Peace Summit.
On the other hand, Al-Jubeir held a number of bilateral meetings with a number of officials on the sidelines of the General Assembly's 73rd session at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, including his counterparts of Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Yemen, Finland, Belgium, Malaysia and Bulgaria.
During these meetings, they discussed bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and those countries and ways of enhancing them in various fields.
Furthermore, he participated in the open seminar to present the Bahraini model of coexistence and religious tolerance entitled «Towards Comprehensive Peaceful Societies» organized by King Hamad International Center for Peaceful Coexistence, during which ways of establishing co-existence, tolerance and combating extremism were discussed.
