بعدما اجتاح شرق الكاريبي برياح مدمرة خلفت 21 قتيلا ودمارا كارثيا، ضرب الإعصار إيرما كوبا وجزر الباهاما، كإعصار من الفئة الخامسة (أعلى تصنيف للأعاصير)، مع اتجاهه صوب فلوريدا مساء أمس الأول.

وبدت المشاهد على طول الساحل الشمالي لكوبا تشبه الأهوال التي خلفها «إيرما» الأسبوع الماضي على جزر أخرى في منطقة الكاريبي.


وحذر خبراء الأرصاد أمس (السبت) من مشاهد دمار أوسع، بعدما شق الإعصار طريقه إلى الساحل الشمالي في اتجاه الغرب عبر مقاطعتي سانكتي سبيريتوس وفيلا كلارا، حيث من المتوقع أن يتجه صوب الشمال باتجاه فلوريدا.

وأفاد المركز الوطني الأمريكي للأعاصير، أن «إيرما» ضرب الأرخبيل وهو يحمل رياحا سرعتها 260 كيلو مترا في الساعة في وقت متأخر أمس الأول، مضيفا أنه يبعد نحو 485 كيلو مترا إلى الجنوب الشرقي من ميامي.

ومن المتوقع وصول أحد أقوى عواصف المحيط الأطلسي، خلال مئة عام، إلى فلوريدا اليوم (الأحد) ليتسبب في دمار نتيجة الرياح والسيول في رابع أكبر ولاية أمريكية من حيث عدد السكان.

ومع اقتراب العاصفة من الولايات المتحدة أمر المسؤولون بعملية إجلاء تاريخية في فلوريدا، وبات الأمر أكثر صعوبة بسبب إغلاق الطرق السريعة ونقص البنزين والتحدي المتمثل في نقل كبار السن. وأوضحت إدارة الطوارئ في فلوريدا، أن 5.6 مليون شخص أو 25% من السكان صدرت لهم أوامر إجلاء.

وحذر حاكم فلوريدا ريك سكوت، من عاصفة كارثية لم تشهد الولاية مثلها من قبل.

ويقترب «إيرما» من ضرب الولايات المتحدة بعد أسبوعين من إعصار هارفي الذي ضرب تكساس، ولويزيانا وأودى بحياة 60 شخصا وسبب أضرارا في الممتلكات تقدر بما يصل إلى 180 مليار دولار.
