ألغى وزير الحرب الأمريكي بيت هيغسيث زيارته التي كانت مقررة إلى إسرائيل، بالتزامن مع التصعيد العسكري المتواصل بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران، من دون صدور إعلان رسمي من واشنطن أو تل أبيب بشأن أسباب القرار.
وأفادت وسائل إعلام إسرائيلية، اليوم الأربعاء، بأنه كان من المقرر أن يجري هيغسيث أول زيارة له إلى إسرائيل منذ توليه منصبه، عقب مشاركته في قمة حلف شمال الأطلسي (الناتو) في أنقرة، إذ كان ينتظر أن يعقد لقاءات مع رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو ووزير الدفاع يسرائيل كاتس.
وبحسب ما نقلته شبكة CNN عن مصادر مطلعة، فإن الزيارة كانت تستهدف بحث التطورات الأمنية في المنطقة، إلى جانب طمأنة إسرائيل بشأن مستقبل التعاون الدفاعي بين الولايات المتحدة وتركيا، ولا سيما فيما يتعلق بإمكانية إعادة أنقرة إلى برنامج مقاتلات F-35.
ويأتي إلغاء الزيارة بعد ساعات من إعلان الولايات المتحدة تنفيذ موجة جديدة من الضربات العسكرية ضد أهداف داخل إيران، ورد طهران بسلسلة هجمات استهدفت مواقع أمريكية في الخليج، في وقت أعلن فيه الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب انتهاء مذكرة التفاهم مع إيران وتصعيد الضغوط عليها.
وتزامن القرار مع استمرار التوتر في مضيق هرمز، وتبادل الاتهامات بين واشنطن وطهران بشأن خرق اتفاق التهدئة، وسط مخاوف من اتساع رقعة المواجهة في المنطقة.
ولم يصدر حتى الآن أي تعليق رسمي من (البنتاغون) أو البيت الأبيض بشأن إلغاء الزيارة أو إمكان تحديد موعد جديد لها، كما لم تعلن الحكومة الإسرائيلية أي تفاصيل إضافية حول هذه الخطوة.
The U.S. Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, canceled his planned visit to Israel, coinciding with the ongoing military escalation between the United States and Iran, without any official announcement from Washington or Tel Aviv regarding the reasons for the decision.
Israeli media reported today, Wednesday, that Hegseth was scheduled to make his first visit to Israel since taking office, following his participation in the NATO summit in Ankara, where he was expected to hold meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.
According to what CNN reported from informed sources, the visit aimed to discuss security developments in the region, as well as to reassure Israel about the future of defense cooperation between the United States and Turkey, particularly regarding the possibility of returning Ankara to the F-35 fighter jet program.
The cancellation of the visit comes just hours after the United States announced a new wave of military strikes against targets inside Iran, with Tehran responding with a series of attacks targeting American sites in the Gulf, at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump announced the end of the memorandum of understanding with Iran and increased pressure on it.
The decision coincides with the continued tension in the Strait of Hormuz and the exchange of accusations between Washington and Tehran regarding violations of the ceasefire agreement, amid fears of an escalation of confrontation in the region.
No official comment has yet been issued from the Pentagon or the White House regarding the cancellation of the visit or the possibility of rescheduling it, nor has the Israeli government announced any additional details about this step.
