قدّم وزير الجيش الأمريكي دان دريسكول استقالته من منصبه، بعد أشهر من التوتر مع وزير الحرب بيت هيغسيث، بحسب ما أكده البيت الأبيض لوكالة «فرانس برس» أمس (الإثنين).
وكانت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال» أول من كشف نبأ الاستقالة، قبل أن تتناقلها وسائل إعلام أمريكية أخرى.
وفي رده على استفسارات بشأن التقارير، لم ينفِ البيت الأبيض المعلومات، وقال في بيان إن «الوزير دريسكول أثبت كفاءة عالية في تعزيز برنامج الرئيس دونالد ترمب، وأظهر قيادة متميزة خلال عمليات عسكرية تاريخية».
وأضاف أن «الجيش الأمريكي أقوى من أي وقت مضى بفضل عمله جنباً إلى جنب مع القائد العام ووزير الحرب».
وشارك دريسكول بشكل خاص في المفاوضات المتعلقة بالحرب في أوكرانيا.
U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation from his position, following months of tension with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, as confirmed by the White House to the French news agency "AFP" yesterday (Monday).
The "Wall Street Journal" was the first to break the news of the resignation, before it was picked up by other American media outlets.
In response to inquiries regarding the reports, the White House did not deny the information, stating in a release that "Secretary Driscoll has demonstrated high competence in advancing President Donald Trump's agenda and has shown exceptional leadership during historic military operations."
It added that "the U.S. Army is stronger than ever thanks to his work alongside the Commander-in-Chief and the Secretary of Defense."
Driscoll was particularly involved in negotiations related to the war in Ukraine.
