U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States is having constructive talks with Iran, adding, "We will not attack them before the midterm elections."
He told reporters before leaving Washington for Florida today, Friday, "We have done a very good job with Iran." He added, "We can resolve the matter very quickly with Tehran, but the question is: do we want to settle it or let it wither away gradually?" Trump confirmed that the United States will keep Iran in a state of "complete paralysis," and that Washington is capable of controlling the country and seizing its oil.
For his part, U.S. envoy Tom Bark did not rule out a new American strike against Iran over the weekend. He said during a podcast on Friday that President Trump has been very clear in his position and has repeatedly left room for an agreement, but Tehran has taken the Strait of Hormuz as a bargaining chip.
The U.S. envoy considered that the U.S. administration is no longer interested in the issue of "regime change" and is open to dialogue at several points.
Last night, the U.S. President reiterated that the war against Iran will end soon, one way or another. He said during a campaign rally in Iowa, "I don’t care much how the war ends, but it will definitely end very soon."
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Walters confirmed that Washington is preparing for a long-term struggle with Iran. Walters acknowledged that the United States may find itself a year from now stuck in a stalemate with Iran, without reaching an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program or restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to pre-war levels.
In an interview with the Financial Times published today, he expressed hope that Iran would make significant concessions after the naval blockade and bombing. He said, "We hope they come to the negotiating table seriously before reaching that point."
He pointed out that the U.S. Navy is capable of maintaining the blockade imposed on Iranian ports for the foreseeable future, emphasizing that the U.S. administration is working to tighten the economic pressure campaign it is exerting on Iran. He stressed that getting Tehran to eliminate highly enriched uranium is a "strategic goal."
