Qatari mediators returned to the Iranian capital, Tehran, today (Friday), as part of diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement between the United States and Iran, according to a source familiar with the negotiations who spoke to Reuters.
The source explained that the mediation efforts are being coordinated with Washington, in an attempt to push the negotiations toward an agreement that ends the war, after Qatar presented a draft peace plan to Tehran last Sunday.
In contrast, a senior Iranian official rejected the Qatari proposals, describing them as unacceptable, and reaffirming Tehran's stance on the nuclear issue.
The disagreements between the two sides revolve around the prioritization of negotiations; Washington insists on including the Iranian nuclear file from the beginning of the talks, while Tehran demands that the United States end the blockade of Iranian ports and lift sanctions on oil exports before discussing other issues.
The return of the Qatari mediators comes amid ongoing diplomatic communications aimed at bridging the gap between the two parties, amidst a clear divergence in the conditions for reaching an agreement.
