The Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aty affirmed Egypt's firm rejection and condemnation of the attacks targeting Gulf countries, emphasizing that Gulf security is an integral part of Egyptian national security, and that the stability of the countries in the region represents a fundamental pillar for the stability of Egypt and the entire region.
This came during the participation of the Egyptian Foreign Minister today (Saturday) in a discussion session titled "Pillars of Regional Security," as part of the events of the 22nd edition of the Regional Security Summit "Manama Dialogue," hosted by the Bahraini capital from October 30 to November 1.
During his speech, Abdel Aty reviewed the challenges posed by the military escalation in the region and its implications for regional and international security and stability, warning of the repercussions resulting from rising tensions and the widening scope of confrontation, particularly its effects on the global economy, supply chains, food and energy markets, and other vital sectors.
The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of transitioning from a logic of crisis management and dealing with its repercussions after they occur, to building a regional system for early warning and rapid response, capable of monitoring threats, containing tensions, and preventing crises from escalating.
Egypt's Vision for Enhancing Regional Security
Abdel Aty presented Egypt's vision regarding the pillars that can be built upon to enhance the future of regional security, explaining that it is based on respecting the rule of law, refraining from the use of force, and non-interference in the internal affairs of states, in addition to promoting the concept of regional ownership and shared responsibility for the security of the region.
He also stressed the necessity of exercising diplomatic wisdom, relying on deterrence in resolving disputes, and maintaining the security of navigation, energy corridors, and vital infrastructure, as these are essential elements for the stability of the region and the global economy.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, the Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized the inevitability of reaching a just and comprehensive settlement that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with sovereignty on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, while completely rejecting policies of displacement, annexation, and settlement.
Security and Development are Two Sides of the Same Coin
Abdel Aty affirmed that commitment to these principles and building upon them would enhance security and stability in the region, positively reflecting on the opportunities for national development in its countries, noting that security and development are two sides of the same coin, and sustainable economic and developmental progress cannot be achieved in the absence of stability.
He stressed the importance of regional efforts to establish clear executive mechanisms that translate these principles into practical steps, ensuring the protection of the common interests of the countries in the region and their peoples, and enhancing their ability to face current and future challenges and threats.
