The Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt, chaired by Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz, issued a decision to ban the head coach of the Egyptian national football team, Captain Hossam Hassan, from appearing on all media outlets subject to the provisions of the Press and Media Regulation Law No. 180 of 2018, effective from the date of the decision. This is part of a package of measures aimed at addressing violations of the rules regarding respect for citizens' private lives.
The decisions included summoning the legal representatives of several websites for hearings, following their violations of the rules previously announced by the council regarding the sanctity of private life, in addition to threatening to take strict legal action in the event of repeated violations of these rules or the rebroadcasting and circulation of news related to the incidents in question.
The council also confirmed the continuation of its previous decision to ban Ms. Dan Adam from appearing on all media outlets subject to the same law.
The Supreme Council for Media Regulation warns against discussing family disputes
The Supreme Council for Media Regulation emphasized the necessity for institutions, media outlets, and digital platforms subject to Law No. 180 of 2018 to adhere to its decision prohibiting the circulation, availability, or discussion of any content related to family crises and disputes or the personal secrets of citizens, without exception.
It affirmed that violating the decision will face the prescribed legal measures according to the penalties regulation, stressing that safeguarding private life is one of the fundamental rules for professional and responsible media practice.
The council clarified that media should remain a space for spreading awareness and knowledge, not a battleground for settling personal disputes or exchanging accusations and quarrels, noting that resolving disputes and personal cases remains the jurisdiction of investigative and judicial authorities.
A message regarding the stability of the national team
Regarding the sports aspect, the council indicated that protecting the stability of the sports system and elevating national interest requires providing a suitable environment for the technical staff of the national team, so they can fulfill their responsibilities and focus on preparing for upcoming sports events, away from the tensions and disputes that do not serve Egyptian sports.
These decisions come as part of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation's approach to reinforce adherence to professional standards and media codes, achieving a balance between freedom of opinion and expression and the responsibilities that come with it, while preserving the sanctity of citizens' private lives.
