أوقف تطبيق «واتساب»، اعتباراً من اليوم (الثلاثاء)، دعم الهواتف الذكية التي تعمل بنظام التشغيل Android 5، في خطوة ترفع الحد الأدنى المطلوب لتشغيل التطبيق إلى Android 6 والإصدارات الأحدث.
وأكد «واتساب» عبر مركز المساعدة الرسمي أن التطبيق لن يدعم، بدءاً من 8 سبتمبر 2026، سوى الأجهزة العاملة بالإصدار السادس من نظام «أندرويد» وما يليه، لتنتهي بذلك فترة دعم الهواتف التي ما زالت تعمل بإصدارات Android 5.0 وAndroid 5.1.
رفع الحد الأدنى للتشغيل
ويعني القرار أن مستخدمي الأجهزة التي لا يمكن ترقيتها إلى Android 6 أو إصدار أحدث لن يتمكنوا من مواصلة استخدام «واتساب» بصورة مدعومة على تلك الأجهزة، فيما يتعين على المستخدمين المتأثرين تحديث نظام التشغيل، إذا كان الجهاز يسمح بذلك، أو الانتقال إلى جهاز يعمل بإصدار مدعوم.
وبحسب موقع «WABetaInfo» المتخصص في متابعة تحديثات «واتساب»، دخل التغيير حيز التنفيذ اليوم، وأصبح Android 6.0 الحد الأدنى المطلوب لتشغيل التطبيق، بعد أن كان Android 5.0 ضمن الأنظمة المدعومة.
مواكبة التطورات التقنية والأمنية
وأوضح «واتساب» أن توقفه بصورة دورية عن دعم الأجهزة وأنظمة التشغيل القديمة يأتي بهدف مواكبة الأجهزة الأحدث والتطورات التقنية والأمنية.
وتراجع الشركة سنوياً أنظمة التشغيل والأجهزة الأقدم والأقل استخداماً، مشيرة إلى أن بعض هذه الأجهزة قد لا تحصل على أحدث التحديثات الأمنية، أو تفتقر إلى الوظائف التقنية اللازمة لتشغيل التطبيق.
تنبيهات للمستخدمين قبل إيقاف الدعم
وأشار «واتساب» إلى أنه يخطر مستخدمي الأنظمة التي يعتزم التوقف عن دعمها مسبقاً من خلال التطبيق، مع إرسال تذكيرات عدة بضرورة ترقية الجهاز أو نظام التشغيل لمواصلة استخدام الخدمة.
وبدخول القرار حيز التنفيذ، باتت الهواتف العاملة بنظام Android 6 والإصدارات الأحدث هي الأجهزة المؤهلة للحصول على دعم «واتساب» على نظام أندرويد.
WhatsApp has stopped supporting smartphones running on Android 5 operating system as of today (Tuesday), raising the minimum requirement to run the app to Android 6 and newer versions.
WhatsApp confirmed through its official help center that starting from September 8, 2026, the app will only support devices running on the sixth version of the Android system and later, thus ending the support period for phones still operating on Android 5.0 and Android 5.1.
Raising the Minimum Operating Requirement
This decision means that users of devices that cannot be upgraded to Android 6 or a newer version will not be able to continue using WhatsApp in a supported manner on those devices, and affected users will need to upgrade their operating system, if the device allows it, or switch to a device running a supported version.
According to the website "WABetaInfo," which specializes in tracking WhatsApp updates, the change took effect today, and Android 6.0 is now the minimum requirement to run the app, after previously supporting Android 5.0.
Keeping Up with Technological and Security Developments
WhatsApp explained that its periodic cessation of support for older devices and operating systems aims to keep up with newer devices and technological and security developments.
The company annually reviews older and less-used operating systems and devices, noting that some of these devices may not receive the latest security updates or lack the technical functionalities necessary to run the app.
Notifications for Users Before Support is Stopped
WhatsApp indicated that it notifies users of the systems it intends to stop supporting in advance through the app, sending several reminders about the need to upgrade the device or operating system to continue using the service.
With the decision now in effect, phones running on Android 6 and newer versions are the eligible devices for receiving WhatsApp support on the Android system.
