The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded First Lady Melania Trump a high-level official honor in recognition of her contributions to humanitarian efforts aimed at evacuating civilians from a town located on the front line in Ukraine, as well as her support for Ukrainian children affected by the war.
The decision for the honor came under a presidential decree published today (Wednesday), dated November 2nd, and referred to what it described as Melania Trump's "significant personal contribution" to providing humanitarian support for Ukraine and her efforts related to protecting Ukrainian children, including those who have been subjected to deportation or forced relocation from areas under Russian occupation.
The Order of Princess Olga, First Class
Melania Trump received the "Order of Princess Olga, First Class," which is one of the Ukrainian honors designated to recognize women who have made exceptional contributions in various fields, including science, education, culture, and charitable and humanitarian work.
The awarding of the honor comes in recognition of the role played by the First Lady in helping to organize a humanitarian evacuation from the town of Olishki, located in southern Ukraine and under Russian control.
A 6-Day Ceasefire for Civilian Evacuation
Ukrainian officials confirmed that Melania Trump played a pivotal role in organizing a local ceasefire that lasted six days, aimed at allowing the evacuation of civilians from the town of Olishki.
The ceasefire ended last Sunday, becoming the longest local pause in fighting since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Melania Trump announced that around 800 people were evacuated during this humanitarian operation, which aimed to provide a safe corridor for civilians away from conflict areas and military dangers.
Support for Ukrainian Children at the Forefront of the Honor
The Ukrainian recognition was not limited to Melania Trump's role in the evacuation process but also included her efforts related to assisting Ukrainian children, particularly those who have been subjected to deportation or forced relocation from Ukrainian areas under Russian occupation.
The presidential decree reflects Kyiv's appreciation for the humanitarian contributions attributed to the First Lady, amid the ongoing war and the worsening humanitarian needs of civilians, especially children and families who have been forced to leave their areas due to military operations.
This honor comes at a time when Ukraine continues its diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to protect civilians and address the repercussions of the war, with a focus on the issue of children who have been relocated from areas under Russian control.
