The developments in the dispute between the Egyptian artist Elham Shahin and the former president of Zamalek Club, Mortada Mansour, have renewed after the artist filed a complaint with the Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt, requesting an investigation into what is published on the verified official page of the latter on "Facebook," and to inform the public prosecutor of the findings to be added to a previous complaint she submitted to the Attorney General's office.
This legal move comes in conjunction with statements made by Mortada Mansour, in which he announced his withdrawal from pursuing Elham Shahin, confirming that the crisis is over, but he linked his position to a condition related to her statements on religious matters, which raises questions about the fate of the dispute that has sparked widespread controversy in recent days.
Demand to Block Mortada Mansour's Page
The Supreme Council for Media Regulation, headed by Engineer Khaled Abdelaziz, announced that it received a complaint from Elham Shahin against Mortada Mansour, in his capacity as the owner and manager of the verified official page "Mortada Mansour" on "Facebook."
The artist demanded that the public prosecutor be notified of the results of the complaint investigation, in preparation for attaching the findings to the complaint she submitted to the Attorney General's office regarding the same incidents, in addition to suspending and blocking the account.
The council, chaired by Khaled Abdelaziz, referred the complaint to the Complaints Committee headed by Essam El-Amir, to examine its contents and take the necessary actions according to the governing rules.
Mortada Mansour Announces Withdrawal from Pursuing Her
In contrast, Mortada Mansour announced during a previous press conference that he was withdrawing from pursuing Elham Shahin, on the condition that she stops discussing religious matters and leaves issuing fatwas to specialists. He stated that an intervention from a high-ranking official, along with the artist Hala Sedky, contributed to calming the crisis.
He also mentioned that a delegation from the Actors' Syndicate visited his office to apologize and request an end to the dispute, according to his account, indicating that the post that sparked the controversy on his page was deleted by "Facebook" management, not by him, and presented a message he claimed was sent to him from the platform to prove this.
Despite announcing his withdrawal from pursuing Elham Shahin, Mansour threatened to take legal action against those who made offensive comments about him, asserting that he has photos and recordings that he claims document those violations.
The Beginning of the Dispute Between the Two Parties
The beginning of the crisis dates back to statements made by Elham Shahin during the eleventh edition of the Sharm El-Sheikh International Festival for Youth Theater, which she chairs honorarily, where she criticized filming people in the streets and publishing their clips on social media, as well as discussing inappropriate treatment of journalists, and what she described as paid campaigns targeting Egyptian art.
Her statements provoked reactions from Mortada Mansour, who directed sharp criticisms at her and revisited a previous dispute she had with some fans of Sheikh Mohamed Metwally Al-Shaarawy, before the situation escalated into an exchange of statements and threats.
Elham Shahin's Message After the Escalation
For her part, Elham Shahin published verses attributed to Imam Al-Shafi'i, carrying a message urging to ignore the insults and not to get dragged into responding to them, which stated: "If the fool speaks, do not answer him... for the best response is silence... If you speak to him, you relieve him... and if you leave him, he dies of grief."
Between the complaint submitted to the Supreme Council for Media Regulation and Mansour's announcement of his withdrawal from pursuing her, the crisis remains open to new developments, awaiting the outcome of the official procedures.
