After being associated with Batman's chases and action scenes in the most famous films of the series, the motorcycle "Batpod" is set to appear in a completely different scene, far from the streets of Gotham City, as it moves to an auction hall in London, with expectations that its price will reach $1.2 million, transforming from a cinematic vehicle into one of the rare collectibles that film memorabilia enthusiasts seek to acquire.
According to a report by CNN, which was relayed by "Russia Today," the motorcycle, which was ridden by actor Christian Bale in the films "The Dark Knight" in 2008 and "The Dark Knight Rises" in 2012, will be auctioned off by the British house "Prop Store," which specializes in cinematic memorabilia.
The importance of the "Batpod" is not limited to its appearance in Batman films; it is not just a prop designed for filming purposes, but a real vehicle developed in collaboration between director Christopher Nolan and production designer Nathan Crowley, while special effects expert Chris Corbould was responsible for turning the design into a usable motorcycle in front of the cameras.
Its design deviates from the traditional shape of motorcycles, as it is equipped with a Honda engine with a capacity of 750 cubic centimeters and massive wheels with a diameter of 31 inches, giving it a distinctive appearance that fits the nature of the cinematic character it was designed for.
However, riding this motorcycle was not an easy task, as Stephen Lane, the founder of the auction house, revealed the difficulty of controlling it, even for actors and stunt performers. The filming witnessed incidents of losing control over it, including a collision with one of the filming cameras.
The value of the displayed version comes from its rarity; only six copies of the motorcycle were made for use in the two films, while the version up for sale is the only one that received official approval from Warner Bros. studio to be showcased at the auction.
The online bidding is set to end on December 4, 2026, amidst expected interest from Batman fans and collectors of cinematic memorabilia, awaiting the price at which one of the most famous motorcycles to appear on the big screen will settle.
